[PtMe2X(gly)]2, crystallize from solution. Reactions of these compounds with added NaOH, NaBr, and 3,5-lutidine have been studied, and found to be largely controlled by the high trans effect of the methyl ligands, but much slower reactions involving sites cis to the methyl groups also occur. The methyl groups always remain cis. Rapid exchange reactions have been studied by n.m.r.
