Photolysis of FpSiMe2SiMe2Fp (Fp = CpFe(CO)2; Cp = eta-C5H5) in C6D6 afforded, in the early stages of photolysis, a mixture of the geometric isomers [CpFe(CO)]2(mu-CO){mu-SiMe(SiMe3)} and [CpFe(CO)]2-(mu-SiMe2)2 (a small amount). Prolonged photolysis gave cis- and trans-[CpFe(CO)]2(mu-SiMe2)2 almost quantitatively. The structure of a geometric isomer of [CpFe(CO)]2(mu-CO){mu-SiMe(SiMe3)} was determined by X-ray crystallography. Crystal data: C17H22Fe2O3Si2, triclinic in the space group P1BAR, a = 9.555 (3) angstrom, b = 14.031 (3) angstrom, c = 7.986 (2) angstrom, alpha = 91.18 (3)-degrees, beta = 113.56 (3)-degrees, gamma = 101.72 (3)-degrees, V = 955.5 (4) angstrom 3, Z = 2, and R(F(o)) = 0.040 for 3792 reflections with \F(o)\ > 3-sigma-(F(o)).
