    Dielectric Properties of the Phase Transitionin TlH2AsO4

    The dielectric properties of TlH2AsO4 powder pellet are investigated over the temperature range from 80 to 433 K. With respect to the form of the temperature dependence of complex dielectric constant, TlH2AsO4 crystal shows much the same characteristics as with the TlH2PO4 crystal. The results are indicative of a first-order antiferroelectric phase transition at 250.5 K (the lower phase transition point, T(L)) with thermal hysteresis of 1.4 K, and of a second-order ferroelastic phase transition at about 390 K (the upper phase transition point, T(U)).

    Infrared and Raman spectra of polycrystalline thallium dihydrogen arsenate (TDA) have been investigated in the 10-4000 cm(-1) wave number range as a function of temperature between 10 and 300 K. Comparison with the original inelastic neutron scattering spectrum of a polycrystalline sample at 30 K allows a detailed assignment. The proton dynamics appear very weakly coupled to the heavy atom dynamics. The spectra are consistent with the doubling of the unit cell below T-c. The order-disorder transition is associated with the reorientation of the AsO4 tetrahedra; the stabilization of these motions is attained at about 150 K below T-c. TIH2AsO4 at low temperature appears ferrielectric. The vibrational features are similar to those of TIH2PO4, which leads to the conclusion that the hydrogen bond frameworks are also similar.
