  The crystal structures of several 2,2'-bipyridyl complexes of indium trichloride have been determined. The compounds [InCl3(bipy)(H2O)], [InCl3(bipy)(H2O)].H2O and [InCl3(bipy)(C2H5OH)] are all fac-octahedral. Lattice dimensions determined from powder data are reported for another polymorphic modification of the [InCl3(bipy)(H2O)] complex. Formation of complexes in the InCl3-bipy-H2O system is discussed. The consideration of possible reasons affecting the configuration of pseudo-octahedral indium(III) halides is also reported.
