Ferrole-type compounds containing thiophenic or thiepinic rings in the 3,4-positions of the metallacycle

The new ferrole Fe(2)(CO)(6)[mu-eta(2), eta(4)-(Fc)C=C{C(H)=C(R)S}C=C(SiMe(3))] [R = SiMe(3) (1) and R = Fc (2)] and ruthenoles Ru(2)(CO)(6)[mu-eta(2), eta(4)-(Me(3)Si)C=C{SC(Fc)=C(H)}C=C(Fc)](3) and Ru(2)(CO)(6)[mu-eta(2), eta(4)-(Me(3)Si)C=C (SC CFc)C(H)=C(Fc)]4, have been obtained from the reactions of M(3)(CO)(12) (M = Fe, Ru) and FcC CSC CSiMe(3) through S-C bond activations and C-C coupling reactions. Thermolysis of Ru(2)(CO)(6)[mu(3)-eta(2), eta(4), eta(3)-(Me(3)Si)C=C{SC(Fc)=C(SC CSiMe(3)}Ru(CO)(3)}C=C(Fc)] alone and in the presence of HC CFc, yielded the compounds Ru(2)(CO)(6)[mu-eta(2), eta(4)-(Me(3)Si)C=C{SC(Fc)=C(SC CSiMe(3))}C=C(Fc)] 5 and Ru(2)(CO)(6)[mu-eta(2),eta(4)-(Me(3)Si)C=C{SC(Fc)=C(SC CSiMe(3))C(H)=C(Fc)}C=C(Fc)] 6, respectively.
