    Temperature and concentration dependences of Raman vibrational modes inRb1x(ND4)xD2AsO4mixed crystals

    The Raman vibrations (10-10(3) cm(-1)) of A(1), B-2, and E symmetries along the [110] phonon direction have been measured as a function of temperature (80-293 K) in the mixed ferroelectric (FE) antiferroelectric system Rb-1-x(ND4)(x)D2AsO4 (DRADA-x) for ammonium concentrations x=0, 0.10, and 0.28. With decreasing temperature, the B-2 Raman shifts of RbD2AsO4 show both softening and hardening anomalies for four selected modes. In DRADA-0.10, the bending mode v(2)(B-2) (near 280 cm(-1)) of the AsO4 group exhibits a gradual softening down to T similar to 125 K and then has a rapid drop. This phenomenon is attributed to a quick development of long-range FE ordering. In DRADA-0.28; the in-plane bending mode delta(O-D) (B-2) shows a softening near 220 K, whereas the bending mode v(2)(B-2) Of the AsO4 group exhibits a hardening. We associate these anomalies with the onset of glass formation. A doublet with splitting of about 10 cm(-1) was observed in the v(1) modes and was attributed to a slight deformation of the v(1) vibration due to AsO4 groups having different nearby ions (ND4 and Rb).

    This paper reports the results of a dielectric investigation of deuterated glass D-RADA, x = 0.39. The shape of the temperature dependence of the imaginary part of the permittivity epsilon'' was analyzed, Analysis of the shape of the temperature dependence of epsilon''(T, nu) proved the existence of two phases of different mechanisms of relaxation, forming among the antiferroelectric domains. One of these mechanisms can be described by the Vogel-Fulcher equation with the parameters T0 = 25.7 K, E(c) = 105.6 K (9.1 meV) and nu0 = 1.16 x 10(8) Hz, and is typical for clusters with short-range order characteristic of proton (deuteron) glass. The other relaxational mechanism is the thermally activated Arrhenius dipolar reorientation with activation energy E(c) = 1105 K (95.2 meV) and frequency nu0 = 1.44 x 10(12) Hz. It is related to free dipoles which have been released from the melting long-range ordering but have not managed to form a cluster yet.
