SYNTHESIS AND SPECTRAL STUDIES OF Pd(II), Pt(II), Ir(III), AND Ru(III) COMPLEXES WITH 12–16 MEMBERED TETRADENTATE MACROCYCLIC LIGANDS

Pd(II), Pt(II), Ir(III) and Ru(III) complexes have been synthesized by the template method and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements and electronic spectral studies. The complexes have the compositions [M(ligand)]Cl-2 (M = Pd or Pt) and [M'(ligand)Cl-2]Cl (M'=Ru and Ir) and (ligands=1,5:11,15-dimetheno-2,4,10,12-tetramethyl-[1,5,9,13]-tetraazacyclohexadeca-1,3,5,6,10,11,13,15,16,20-decene (L-1), 1,5:10,14-dimetheno-[1,4,8,11]-tetraazacyclotetradeca-3,5,6,8,10,12,-1,4,15,17-decene (L-2), dibenzo-[b,i]-8,10,19,21-tetramethyl-[1,5,8,12]-tetraazacyclotetradeca- 1,3,5,7,10,12,14,16,18,21-decene (L-3) and dibenzo-[b,h]-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododeca-1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17,19-decene (L-4)). The complexes of Pd(II) and Pt(II) are square-planar in geometry. The Ru(III) and Ir(III) complexes arc six-coordinate and octahedral.
