The versatility and synthetic potential of the novel tris-acetonitrile-substituted cluster Ru3(CO)9(MeCN)3 (3) for the formation of ruthenaboranes in unprecedently high yields are illustrated. Reaction of 3 with [Me4N][B3H8] yields HRu3(CO)9B2H5 (65%) and with BH3·THF yields HRu6B(CO)17 (60%).
