  toluene gave mer-[FeI(diphos)(CNR)3]I complexes. These complexes reacted with AgClO4 in dichloromethane to give mer-[Fe(OClO3)- (diphos)(CNR)3]ClO4. The monodentate perchlorate group could easily be replaced in refluxing Cl2CH2 by neutral ligands L (L = PPh3 NCMe, CNR and diphos) to give compounds of the type [FeL(diphos)(CNR)3](ClO4)2.
