BINUCLEAR N8 28-MEMBERED MACROCYCLIC TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES: SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION

A novel family of tetraimineoctaaza macrocyclic complexes [M2LX3]X, (M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II); X = Cl or Br) has been prepared by the condensation reaction of triethylenetetramine with phthalaldehyde in methanol in the presence of metal ions as templates. The complexes have been characterized on the bases of elemental analyses, 1R, H-1 NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopic studies, as well as conductivity and magnetic susceptibility data. The coordination geometry around the metal ions is octahedral in which a single halogen bridges the two metal ions.
