Treatment of the reagent [NEt4][Rh(CO)(PPh3)(eta5-7,9-C2B9H11)] in CH2Cl2, in the presence of TlBF4, with half an equivalent of the digold compounds [Au2Cl2{mu-Ph2P(CH2)nPPh2}] (n = 2-6) affords the complexes [Rh2Au2{mu-Ph2P(CH2)nPPh2}(CO)2 (PPh3)2(eta5-7,9-C2B9H11)2]. The compounds [Rh2Au2{mu=Ph2P(CH2)nPPh2}(CO)2(PPh3)2 (eta5-7,8-C2B9H11)2] (n = 3 or 6) have similarly been prepared. Reactions between the digold complexes [Au2Cl2(mu-Z or E-Ph2PCH=CHPPh2)] and the salts [NEt4][Rh(CO)(PPh3)(eta5-7,n-C2B9H11)] (n = 8 or 9) give the four isomeric dirhodium-digold complexes [Rh2Au2(mu-Z or E-Ph2PCH=CHPPh2)(CO)2(PPh3)2(eta5-7,n-C2B9H11)2]. The NMR data for the new compounds are reported and discussed in terms of the formulations proposed.
