Formation of (η5-C9H7)2Re2(CO)4(μ-CO) and Its Rearrangement to (η5-C9H7)Re(CO)2(μ-η2,η5-C9H7)Re(CO)3

UV photolysis of (eta(5)-C9H7)Re(CO)(3) in hexane provides binuclear (eta(5)-C9H7)(2)Re-2(CO)(4)(mu-CO) (1) (30%) and a small amount (3%) of an indenyl-bridged compound (eta(5)-C9H7)Re(CO)(2)(mu-eta(2),eta(5)-C9H7)Re(CO)(3) (2). Compound 1 rearranges quantitatively to compound 2 with a half-life in CH2Cl2 at 25 degrees C of 25 min.
