A series of tantalum and niobium imido complexes containing pyrazolato ancillary ligands has been synthesized by salt methathesis reactions with alkylimidotrichlorobis(pyridine)metal starting materials. The complexes M(Nt-Bu)(t-Bu(2)Pz)(3) (M = Nb, Ta), Ta(Ni-Pr)(t-Bu(2)Pz)(3). Ta(Nt-Bu)(Me(2)Pz)(3)(py), and M(Nt-Bu)(t-Bu(2)Pz)(2)(Cl)(py) (M = Nb. Ta) were prepared and completely characterized. The crystal and molecular structures of Ta(Nt-Bu)(t-Bu(2)Pz)(3). Ta(Ni-Pr)(t-Bu(2)Pz)(3). Ta(Nt-Bu)(Me(2)Pz)(3)(py), and Ta(Nt-Bu)(t-Bu(2)Pz)(2)(Cl)(py) are described.
