The coordinatively saturated iridium(III) hydride [[graphic omitted]Ph2}] containing an ene–hydrazone backbone isomerises reversibly in a polar solvent to give the reactive and coordinatively unsaturated iridium(I) salt [[graphic omitted]Ph2]Cl which reacts rapidly with alkenes, acetylenes, dihydrogen, etc.
