The thioketene iron cluster (C11H18Fe2CO)6 (II) reacts with H− to give the anionic thioacyl complex [(C11H19S)Fe2(CO)6]− (IV). (PPh3)Au+ and Hg2+ are taken up by IV to form the neutral thioacyl clusters V and VI. The crystal structure of the gold complex V has been determined by X-ray diffraction.

The cluster complex (thioketene)Fe2(CO)6 (2) reacts with ARPHOS (5) to give the adduct (thioketene)Fe2(CO)6(arphos) (7). In solution complex 7 very slowly cleaves CO to form the compound (thioketene)Fe2(CO)5 (arphos) (8). Heating or irradiation of 8 yields a dinuclear complex (thioketene)2Fe2(CO)4(arphos) (9) having two thioketene ligands in the molecule. Reaction of the cluster 2 with DIARS (6) gives
