Novel bright-blue luminescent complex of Zn(II) with 7-amino-methylchromen-4-one: Synthesis, photophysical properties and DFT calculations

A new Zn(II) complex with 7-amino-2-methylchromen-4-one as monodentate ligand has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, MS-FAB, (HNMR)-H-1 and FT-IR spectroscopy. The structure and spectroscopic properties of complex were studied using X-ray crystallography, fluorescence spectroscopy and DFT calculations. The relationship between solid-state fluorescence and molecular packing of ligand and complex were examined. Fluorescence properties of the solid-state complex (intensive bright-blue emission) indicate that it can serve as a potential photoactive material. The complex could also act as sensitive fluorescent probe for Zn(II) in acetonitrile. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
