Substitution reactions of cis-dichlorobis (2,2′-biquinoline)rhodium(III) chloride

The substitution reactions of the 2,2'-biquinoline (big) complex cis-[Rh(biq)(2)Cl-2]Cl with Br-, I- OH-, NH3, pyridine (py), CN-, NO2-, SCN-, ethylenediamine (en), 2,2'bipyridine (bipy) and dimethylglyoxime (dmgmH(2)) have been investigated. The new complexes cis-[Rh(biq)(2)ICl]I,cis-[Rh(biq)(2)(OH)(2)]PF6 . 3H(2)O, cis-[Rh(biq)(2)(NH3)Cl](PF6)(2) . 2H(2)O, cis-[Rh(biq)(2)(py)Cl]Cl-2, [Rh(biq)(CN)(3)](n), (n > 1), [Rh(biq) (NO2)(H2O)Cl-2], cis-[Rh(biq)(2)(SCN)(2)]SCN . 2.5H(2)O and [Rh(biq)(2)(dmgm)]Cl . 3H(2)O have been characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, IR, electronic absorption and H-1 NMR spectra. However, the reactions of cis-[Rh(biq)(2)Cl-2]Cl with Br-, en and bip afforded the known complexes cis-[Rh(biq)(2)Br-2]Br, cis-[Rh(en)(2)Cl-2]Cl and cis-[Rh(bipy)(2) Cl-2]Cl, respectively.
