  [RU(eta(5)-C5Me5)(eta(4)-CH2CHCHCH2)B7(2)](+) (1) reacts with 1 equiv of SR2 (R = Et, i-Pr) at -20 degrees C in CH2Cl2 to afford the new dibromo-containing Ru(IV) eta(3)-allyl complexes [Ru(eta(5)-C5Me5)(eta(3)- CH2CHCHCH2SR2)Br-2](+) (2, 3) in. good yields. Reaction. of 1 with the cyclic thioether SC4H8 gave a mixture of the respective Ru(IV) eta 3-allyl complex and the cationic complex [Ru(eta(5)-C5Me5)(SC4H8)(2)Br-2](+) (5) in a ratio of about 2:1. 2 (as the syn isomer) has been characterized by X-ray crystallography.
