含有氨基的化合物称为氨基化合物。氨基,即-amino-NH2,是由氨分子去氢而形成的一个基团。例如,由-RNH2或R2NH这类胺去掉一个氢原子形成的基团(如甲氨基-CH3NH-、二乙氨基-(C2H5)N-和苯氨基-C6H5NH-)被称为某氨基,这些基团具有极性和碱性。
无机化合物中,氨分子去两个氢原子形成亚氨基-imino,这是一个二价基团。含有这种基团的化合物包括亚胺、仲胺与二酰亚胺等。
