The nonaromatic enediynes 6-9, 11, and 14 upon thermolysis at 170-245-degrees-C in the presence of 1,4-cyclohexadiene will undergo a tandem enediyne-radical and bis-tandem enediyne-radical cyclization to give 2,3-dihydroindenes 15-19 and 20 in moderate to excellent isolated yields.
