    Bis(3-nitrophenoxy) derivatives of aromatic or bridged aromatic hydrocarbons are derived from m-dinitrobenzene and dihydroxy derivatives of said hydrocarbons by a condensation reaction in dipolar aprotic solvents in the presence of bases. The bis(3-nitrophenoxy) derivatives obtained are successively reduced to afford bis-(3-aminophenoxy) derivatives. This is a new method for reacting the dihydroxy-derivatives with m-dinitrobenzene, and hence can prepare novel bis(3-aminophenoxy) derivatives such as 4,4'-bis(3-aminophenoxy)biphenyl, 1-[4-(3-aminophenoxy) phenyl]-1,3,3-trimethyl-6-(3-aminophenoxy)indan, 6,6'-bis(3-aminophenoxy)-3,3,3',3'-tetramethyl-1,1'spirobiindan, and methyl substituted 2,2'-bis[4-(3-aminophenoxy) phenyl)propane.

    Heat resistant resin compositions consisting essentially of 5-95 wt.% of polyimide composed of recurring units represented by the formula (I): wherein X and Y are the same as defined in the claims, and 95-5 wt.% of known aromatic polyetherimide are disclosed. The resin compositions of this invention have good thermal stability in the high temperature region, particularly in the temperature range of 300-400°C. The compositions can be injection molded due to the retention of frictional property in aromatic polyetherimide and also have thermal resistance, impact resistance and abrasion resistance. Therefore the compositions can be widely used as the material of parts in any industrial fields such as automotives, business machines, electric and electronic appliances, automatic energy saving devices, aeronautics and space instruments and general purpose industrial machines, which renders this invention very valuable.

    A process for preparing a polyimide by reaction of a diamine and a tetracarboxylic dianhydride to obtain a polyamide acid and subjecting the polyamide acid to conversion into a polyimide thermally or chemically. The reaction in the process is carried out in the presence of at least one dicarboxylic anhydride selected from the group consisting of aliphatic dicarboxylic anhydrides and aromatic dicarboxylic anhydrides, and the amount of the tetracarboxylic dianhydride is in the range of from 0.9 to 1.0 mole per mole of the diamine and the amount of the dicarboxylic anhydride is in the range of from 0.001 to 1.0 mole per mole of the diamine. The resultant polyimides exhibit good thermal stability at high temperatures and good forming processability even at low temperatures.

    This invention relates to a process for preparing polyimide having good heat-stability and excellent flowability in a molten state. The polyimide is prepared by reacting 3,3′-diaminobenzophnone or bis(3-aminophenyl)sulfone, tetracarboxylic dianhydrides such as pyromellitic dianhydride, 3,3′,4,4′-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride and bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl) ether dianhydride; and dicarboxylic anhydrides such as glutaric anhydride, 1,2-hexanedicarboxylic anhydride, phthalic anhydride and 3,4-benzophenonedicarboxylic anhydride. The molar ratio of aromatic diamine : tetracarboxylic dianhydride : dicarboxylic anhydride is 1 :(0.9 to 1.0) : (0.001 to 1.0).
